PHANTOM WEST

I painted this when everything felt unreal. As if I was living in a scene and just repeating myself. A black horse runs through the desert, but the finish line always recedes. This work is about the chase for something that never comes, and the feeling of being present without actually being there.

The painting features a lone cactus, a "10¢" price tag, gray dots, and an endless finish line. All of this points to the feeling of losing touch with reality, yet continuing to run.
